Department of Mechanical Engineering, S B Jain Institute of Technology, Management and Research organized a national symposium on ‘Recent Trends in Solar Energy Technologies’ in collaboration with Institution of Engineers (I), Nagpur and Solar Energy Society of India, New Delhi. The symposium was held from 6 th to 7 th January, 2018.
Dr Shashikant B Thombre, Professor and Head, Mechanical Deptt., VNIT, was the chief guest and the key note speakers, in the inauguration ceremony. While Dr Ravindra Babu Yarasu, Associate Professor of Govt. College of Engineering, Nagpur and Er. Gurmeet Menor, M2M Metanoia, were the expert speakers during the programme.
Dr Shashikant B Thombre discussed about fuel cell, its working, types and applications and demonstrated the working through the models. He also mentioned the advantages and disadvantages of the fuel cell, fuel cell versatility and application, major steps, major losses, characterization of fuel cell and the scope of research that can be undertaken on the subject.
Dr Ravindra Babu Yarasu threw light on use of solar energy, renewable energy development and programme in Indian scenario and bio energy technology. Er. Gurmeet Menor talked about new trends in off-grid and on-grid photo voltaic solar power
system. Hybrid solar system, benefits of micro inverters, types of solar batteries, flow batteries, PV solar panels, concept of roof top solar panels.
On the second day of the symposium, Dr Vivek Bhore, Director, V.V.Associate, Nagpur and Mr Sudhir Sarawat, Director, Green Life Solution Pvt. Ltd., Nagpur were invited as expert speakers. Dr Vivek Bhore laid emphasis on need of energy, present scenario, worldwide use of energy, solar equipment, technical aspects, analysis and testing of liquid flat plate collectors, solar air heater design, its application, types of solar cookers, job potential and opportunities in the said field. Mr Sudhir Sarawat mentioned about various future technologies on renewable energy, hybrid bio-solar cell, heat solar cell, solar concentrating technologies, fuel cell operated car. He also interacted with the participants on using these technologies. Over 70 participants/research scholars from various institutes/organizations of the region participated in this two-day symposium..
CEO of the trust, Prof.Sanjeev Agrawal, Principal, Dr Sanjay Badjate, Convenor and HoD of Mech Engg department, Prof.Harish Bhatkulkar and Co-convenor, Dr Arvind Bodhe were prominently present in the ceremony. Vote of thanks was proposed by Mr Amit Bankar. All the staff members of the Mechanical Department worked hard for the success of the symposium.
